Surf Cup Qualifier comes to the Northwest!
SEATTLE – Nov. 12, 2021. We are pleased to announce a joint effort to host the inaugural Northwest Copa Surf tournament, kicking off June 3-5 @ Starfire Sports, Tukwila.
This collaboration involving WA Surf Academy, EW Surf Club and Surf Corp. is bringing a new top-flight competitive soccer tournament to the Northwest!
Winners of top division punch their ticket to Surf Cup in San Diego, one of the nation’s biggest showcase tournaments.
"We are delighted to bring our Copa Surf series to the Pacific Northwest, with the collaboration between Surf Nation, WPL Surf Academy and Eastern Washington we have the opportunity to deliver on our mission and create a world class event within the region,” said Andy Prosser, Surf Corp. national affiliate director. “The Copa Surf series is limited to a handful of locations across North America that are designated qualifiers to the prestigious Surf Cup.”
The Copa Surf tournament is a new elite showcase and qualifier tournament for competitive clubs across the Northwest region, including western Canada. This regional Surf qualifier tournament will host clubs from as far north as Alaska, British Columbia and west to Alberta, Idaho, Montana and Washington to south to Utah and Oregon.
“We are excited to partner with Surf Corp to bring an elite showcase and qualifying event to the Northwest in early summer,” said Stanley Holmes, WPL Surf president. “This tourney will give top teams one important pathway to Surf Cup and promises all teams a quality regionwide competition and scouting event.”

For Year 1, the NW Surf Copa will host 14U to 19U boys’ and girls’ teams in two brackets:
- Super Black
- Super White
Super Black winners will earn the automatic bid to Surf Cup San Diego in late July, 2022.
Teams can apply directly or will be invited by the tournament committee. The committee will accept an individual team or a group of teams based on performance criteria.
This tournament hopes to showcase the region’s most competitive clubs and its top players, offering college prep and scouting opportunities! Matches will be filmed.
Come join with Surf Academy and the Surf Corp. and participate in a new competitive opportunity for your teams. Face top clubs from the Northwest and Canada and be part of a truly regional showcase tournament that sends its winners to Surf Cup in San Diego in late July.
Tournament matches will be filmed and copies will be available online. Some games will be live streamed for college scouts. College coaches will be supporting this regional showcase of talent, and college prep information and scouting opportunities will be available, too.
